President's Report Last Tuesday night the Trust held its 55th
Annual General Meeting. The evening was well attended and eleven
committee members were elected. The Trust’s constitution requires 10
members to be appointed with the discretion to elect two more. We have
three members from Cheltenham, consistent with our constitution that
requires a minimum of three to be elected from either Beecroft or
Cheltenham.

elected members are Michael Book, Harkirat Dhindsa, Ram Bhat, Janet
Hayes, Michael McAuley, Nina Mital, Bill Rankine, Glynn Rogers, Brian
Shirley, Julie Zetler and Ross Walker. The elected committee will
meet next week to appoint office bearers, including a President. As
stated in earlier eNews, I am prepared to stand as President
again, but it will be my last year as the constitution stipulates the
maximum term is three years.
New South Wales State Government Elections -
Saturday 23rd March Voting
is compulsory. The whole of Beecroft and Cheltenham falls within the
Electorate of Epping. So for those of you who have not already voted,
you must vote this coming Saturday 23rd March 2019.
There are FIVE candidates for the seat of Epping. They are, in order as shown on the voting slip:
Victor Waterson Independent, Samuel Lyndon Keep Sydney Open, Alan
Mascarenhas Labor, Dominic Perrottet Liberal and Simon Margan Greens.

The forthcoming Federal Elections in May 2019 - reminder The Trust will now be holding a separate ‘Meet the Candidates’ meeting for the Federal Electorate of Berowra only on Monday night 8th April 2019 at the Beecroft Bowling Club.
The area of Beecroft south of the M2 falls within the Federal Electorate
of Bennelong. The Trust has agreed to hold a combined ‘Meet the
Candidates’ meeting with Epping Civic Trust in Epping. Details
will be provided when the date is known.
Autumn Market Day at Beecroft Uniting Church Saturday 23rd March The
Beecroft Uniting Church is holding a Market day this coming Saturday
between 9 am and 1 pm, to coincide with the NSW State Election. For more details Click Here.
Charity Garage Sale at Beecroft Scout Hall WISEKidsWORLD is holding a charity garage sale on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th April 2019 at the Beecroft Scout Hall in the Crescent.
The garage sale is being organized by Bindi Shah and is seeking
donations. Bindi can be contacted on 0417 663 547. Last year the
charity achieved $11,000, with the money going to Room to Read, a slum
school in New Delhi and toilets at a school in PNG and teacher training

Book launch by local author at the Children’s Bookshop Beecroft
Local resident Monica Tan has written a book called Stranger Country. Her media release is below.
Beecroft author Monica Tan has released a new book called Stranger Country
(featured in ABC, The Guardian, The Australian, SMH, SBS) that is a
clarion call for a new generation of Australians to engage with
reconciliation.
But what does that engagement look like for the local communities of the
Hornsby Shire? And what does it mean to be a non-Indigenous Australian
custodian of these lands?
During an author talk at The Children’s Bookshop, she will examine the
renaissance of grassroots, environmental and heritage activism taking
place across the Bushland Shire including right here in Beecroft and how
reconciliation can become part of that mix.
Monica will be joined by panelists Mariko Smith of Hornsby Area for
Reconciliation and Hornsby Shire Councillor Emma Heyde, and others to be
announced. Local community groups are encouraged to participate and
will be given a chance to introduce themselves.

Beecroft Men's Probus - a Message from Robin Graham – Reminder “Your
civic trust in action” is the speaker’s topic at the March meeting of
the club at Beecroft Bowling Club, Copeland Road – 10.00am. Monday 25th March.
President Ross Walker will review issues past, present and future of
concern to the Trust in its mandate to preserve the existing character,
heritage values, and natural beauty of our village.
Please note in your diary the next meeting of the Probus group's
Investment Club where the topic under discussion will be “Aged care –
it’s complicated”. You are fit, healthy and enjoying retirement; why
should you be thinking of aged care now? Beecroft Bowling Club – 4.30 pm
